Present perfect tense is used to indicate an action that occurred or completed at some point in the past and its result affect the present situation.


Ways to form the Present Perfect Tense



Affirmative Sentence

The formula for Present Perfect Tense Affirmative Sentence is as such:

Subject + Has / Have + Verb (past participle form) + Object (optional)

Example:

I have finished my homework.
He has gone to work..

Negative Sentence

The formula for Present Perfect Tense Negative Sentence is as such:

Subject + Has / Have + Not + Verb (past participle form) + Object (optional)

Example:

You have not watched a movie.
She has not gone to school.

Interrogative Sentence

The formula for Present Perfect Tense Interrogative Sentence is as such:

Has / Have + Subject + Verb (past participle form) + Object (optional)

Example:

Have I finished my homework?
Has she gone to school?

Negative Interrogative Sentence

The formula for Present Perfect Tense Negative Interrogative Sentence is as such:

Has / Have + Subject + Not +Verb (past participle form) +Object (optional)

Example:

Have you not just watched a movie?
Has he not gone to work every day?

Uses of Present Perfect Tense

The Present Perfect Tense is mainly used as:

1. To talk about something that has happened in the past, but it has an importance in the present

For example

I have finished my homework.
You have broken your leg.

2. To talk about action whose time is not given

For example:

She has completed graduation.
He has done apprentice.
